Your First Checking Account

If you start making or receiving money, you’re probably worried about where to put it. Most financial professionals would advise you to open up a checking account.

With so many different types of accounts to choose from, you might decide it’s easier to stash your cash in a piggy bank or under your mattress. Did you know using a financial institution to keep track of your money is actually pretty easy – and it comes with some pretty great benefits as well.

When you use a credit union or bank, your money is insured. You can’t lose it, and you’ll always know where it is. Plus, when you save money in a real account, you can earn interest or dividends, which means you’ll make more money just for having your cash sit in an account.

What you’ll need to open an account at SCE Credit Union

We understand you’ve got a lot going on – movies, food, clothes… you know – stuff! That’s why we designed our Teen accounts specifically for you.

If you’re between the ages of 12 and 17, you can open an account at one of our branches with your mom or  dad.

Here’s a list of what you’ll need to open your new account:

  1. A valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a school ID, driver’s license or a passport
  2. Your birthdate, Social Security number, home address, phone number and email address
  3. Your mom or dad must be on the account, so we’ll need their ID and personal info, too

What you can expect from the Credit Union

With our mobile app and Debit Card, your money’s always at your fingertips. You can deposit checks, transfer money, pull cash out of the ATM… and even pay with your phone using Apple, Google or Samsung Pay wherever you go. Who needs old school checks, right? Well, probably your mom. Because she still uses Facebook and asks what channel Netflix is on. Just kidding, we love moms.

Plus, you can count on us to always be here for you. We understand mistakes happen and you may have questions. We get it and we’re here to help… you’ll find us in the app! You can chat with us, send us a message or give us a call at 800.866.6474.
